Our Common Future

Notre idée était d’explorer ce qui nous attache au monde à travers la question aujourd’hui lancinante de notre futur commun [ i don’t believe in global warming, being brillant together, sponsored by nobody ].

Les deux frères derrière La Fratrie, Karim et Luc Berchiche, créent à quatre mains des sculptures fascinantes de précision et d’évocations qui interrogent l’Homme dans son rapport à l’environnement. Au sommet de la Terre, en 1992, on utilise ce rapport comme base de réflexion et on parle pour la première fois de sustainable development, traduit en français par développement durable. Depuis, l’expression s’est répandue dans le monde entier. Ambitieux, mobilisateurs, fédérateurs, ces mots sonnent comme un slogan politique. En effet, qui ne se soucie pas de l’avenir ?

Notre idée était d’explorer ce qui nous attache au monde à travers la question aujourd’hui lancinante de notre futur commun [ i don’t believe in global warming, being brillant together, sponsored by nobody ].

Nous avons vu dans cette déclaration collective « notre avenir à tous » la recherche obstinée, folle et désespérée d’être aimé.
C’est le sentiment qui lie les personnes entre elles, et c’est universel. L’amour est la grande affaire de l’existence, la seule qui, au dire de STENDHAL, re-passionnne la vie.

Nous avons, avec des fragments d’architectures recomposées, des totems et des dioramas, tenté de représenter la complexité et la pluralité du jeu amoureux, sous toutes ses formes, tous ses genres, de la plus noble, de la plus poétique à la plus grinçante version. [ je t’aime bordel ] ou [ it was all a dream ] envisage l’histoire cruelle d’un amour aveugle, d’une passion non partagée : l’espérance s’approche de la foi. Et bien souvent, écrivait Marcel Proust, un amour n’est que l’association d’une image de jeune fille avec les battements de cœur inséparables d’une attente interminable, vaine et d’un lapin que la demoiselle nous a posé.

[ get lost/save ] me montre des mains de néon d’une apparente fragilité qui s’enlacent et relient deux pans de murs grandeur nature.
Elles fixent la magie, la fugacité mais aussi le bouleversement qu’implique la rencontre amoureuse.

Alors si l’unique mesure de l’amour ne peut être que la démesure, notre pièce en forme de cœur [ beyond the point of reason ] en est la plus parfaite matérialisation. Au commencement était l’émotion – Céline.

Earth : our crowded spaceship  

Derrière le duo d’artistes français La Fratrie, deux frères Karim et Luc Berchiche, qui créent à quatre mains depuis plus d’une quinzaine d’années et conçoivent des sculptures miniatures comme autant de « petits coins de paradis ».

Ces micro mondes oniriques sont semblables à des roches suspendues, architectures utopiques qui pourraient à tout moment basculer dans le vide et le chaos, mondes en suspens dans un entre deux dans lesquels la présence humaine est toujours esquissée en filigrane mas jamais représentée, mondes à part entière semblables à des illusions déracinées et apatrides.

Le titre de l’exposition fait référence à l’ouvrage de science fiction prémonitoire d’Isaac Asimov : Earth : our crowded spaceship. Dans ce livre visionnaire des années 70, le globe terrestre est vue comme un vaisseau spatial, tel un petit système autonome aux ressources limitées dont les habitants de la Terre seraient les passagers.

Il existe une correspondance frappante entre l’intuition d’Asimov et les mondes flottants, comme en orbite, de La Fratrie.

Asimov voulait alerter sur la fin programmée des ressources terrestres et l’intérêt de prendre soin de notre planète. La Fratrie se positionne dans une dynamique similaire. Ces mondes agissent souvent comme une allégorie de nos préoccupations actuelles, notamment, en ce qui concerne l’avenir de la terre.

Plusieurs œuvres présentes dans cette exposition évoquent explicitement les bouleversements climatiques : « thinking outside the box » et soudainement tout devient possible ou encore : « nothing matters (that much) ».

Plus loin la sculpture intitulée « Honeymoon hotel » crée une passerelle entre l’univers de science fiction d’Asimov et celui des frères …ici il n’est pas question de coloniser Mars mais d’une manière plus romantique de passer sa lune de miel sur la Lune.
